The Corizon Staff at Tutwiler Prison for Women, in Wetumpka, Alabama, recently participated in several fundraising projects in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Staff at Tutwiler is dedicated to the ongoing improvement in women’s healthcare for incarcerated women; and they work diligently each day to ensure that each inmate patient in their care receives the highest quality jail healthcare available.

Nurses at Women’s Eastern Reception Diagnostic Correctional Center in Missouri assisted an injured cook after her hands were caught in a meat saw. Medical staff quickly responded to the area and evaluated her injuries. One hand had a partial amputation of the thumb while the other hand was basically filleted open at the thumb pad, which was not discovered until the responding nurses released pressure from the affected area. The very first Inmate Health Fair was held at Wyoming Womens Center (WWC) on October 15, 2011. The inmate health fair was a huge success. “Keys to Unlocking Good Health: Focusing on Mental, Physical and Spiritual Wellness” was the theme. The inmate health fair was held in two time frames enabling all of the inmates to attend. During each segment there were five different health components that were presented. Each inmate was given a portfolio that had information provided by the different vendors and speakers. Continue reading

Christy Simpson, LCSW, at Gwinnett County Detention Center recently obtained National Certification by the Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement as a Pet Loss and Bereavement Counselor. In doing so, she became the only person in the state of Georgia to be certified as a specialist in this area and was recently interviewed by CNN.com about the subject. Continue reading
