Crystal Pettit, LPN at Correctional Alternative Placement Program (CAPP), a Corizon partner, was recently awarded the Silver Medal for her heroism. The Idaho DOC awarded Crystal this medal after she administered CPR and coordinated lifesaving efforts with other officers. Judy Fielder

Clinical Nursing Support secretary Judy Fielder of Coxsackie Correctional Facility (NY), volunteered her time over the 2013 holiday season by assisting the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign two to three evenings per week in an effort to help them meet and exceed their fundraising goal. They did just that by raising a grand total of $56,500 – $3,500 over their goal! This success must be attributed to her cheerful disposition and positive attitude, according to Coxsackie Health Services Administrator (HSA) Judy Loucks. We thank you, Judy Fielder, for giving of your time for the benefit of others and for being a wonderful Corizon representative in the community.

The Gwinnett County (GA), a Corizon Partner, animal therapy program has gained some positive local news attention recently. The program, which has been in place for approximately six months, brings two Dalmatians, Ditto and Pinto, into the jail once a month as part of the assisted therapy program geared toward mental health patients. This type of therapy is believed to help reduce stress and improve overall moods of incarcerated patients. Continue reading

Corizon LPN Alphonso Bratcher of the St. Louis City Justice Center has been presented with the first “U Rock” award of the year, created for and given quarterly to employees who display exemplary job performance. Directors of Nursing (DON) Leonara Muhammad and Janet Roberts, along with Health Services Administrator (HSA) Kenneth McCain, presented Alphonso with the award.

He was nominated by his coworkers for his outstanding dedication and team approach to his assignments. By earning this award, he has shown his commitment to the Corizon vision and his determination in his work. Congratulations, Alphonso. Keep up the great work!

Virginia Hughes and Chillicothe staff

A retirement reception was recently held for Virginia “Jenny” Hughes, LPN/Infection Control Nurse, at the Chillicothe Correctional Center (CCC) (MO), a Corizon partner. Jenny worked at the facility for 27 years. She began her career as an LPN in the medical unit at CCC in 1986 and in 2005, became a Corizon nurse. Jenny is well-loved and respected by patients, DOC and Corizon staff, and has often been described as “always smiling, cheerful and friendly no matter what.” Continue reading
