Michigan Doctor and Tennessee Addiction Services Director Honored with 3rd Quarter SMART Employee Awards

SMART Employees of the QuarterA doctor who launched a Vivitrol program for parole violators at a Michigan women’s prison and a Tennessee clinician who is working to open the first of its kind Opioid Addiction and Co-occurring Unit in the nation are the recipients of Corizon Health’s 3rd Quarter SMART Employee Awards.

Dr. Clair Pei, Senior Site Physician at the Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility in Pittsfield Charter Township, Michigan took the reins of a proposed Vivitrol-injection program to help prevent the relapse of opioid dependence, writing the procedure for the enrollment, monitoring and discharge of each patient. She then ran and administered the program while she trained staff on the policies and procedures.

Women’s Huron Valley houses more than 2,000 women and nominator, DO Sara Gough, said Dr. Pei has motivated the site to work as a team, strive for excellence and deliver unwavering quality care.

“She has gone above and beyond the call of duty by handling all administrative, quality and medical issues with confidence and ease,” Gough said. “She continually does an excellent job.”

Director of Addiction Services Richard Kinnaman

In Tennessee, Director of Addiction Services Richard Kinnaman, who works out of the regional office, receives high praise for expanding and growing the substance abuse program throughout the state, and nominator, Dr. Mark Fleming, wrote, Kinnaman “has done an amazing job creating safe therapeutic communities throughout our prisons” in Tennessee.

Recently, Kinnaman was named 2017 Professional of the Year by the Tennessee Association for Addiction Professions, an organization that educates, advocates and promotes healthy addiction-free communities in Tennessee.

Dr. Fleming reported that Kinnaman epitomizes participant leadership; frequently in the field and developing mentoring relationships with all of his staff.
