SMART Employees of the Quarter

SMART Employees of the QuarterOur SMART employees for the second quarter of 2017 are Stephanie Abshire, Behavioral Health Administrator at the Mark H. Luttrell Correctional Facility in Tennessee, and Joanie Vaughn, an LPN at the St. Clair Correctional Facility in Alabama. These two team members have consistently exhibited Corizon Health’s SMART values of Safety, Motivation, Accountability, Respect and Teamwork.

In nominating Stephanie, Dr. Mark Fleming, VPO of our Tennessee Department of Corrections Mental Health contract, said she is one of the most talented problem solvers he knows.

“She is given a problem and is quick to find solutions,” Dr. Fleming said. “I trust her in every aspect of her work especially when helping staff work through issues or dealing with the client.”

Stephanie is new in her role as BHA, but Dr. Fleming said she already is having a positive impact on the system, including establishing a highly skilled employee group on site and earning praise from our client partner.

Joanie was nominated by DON Michelle Bessette who cited her impressive out-of-the-box thinking. In Missouri, mental health services are provided by MHM. With the MHM LPN out on FMLA, Joanie took it upon herself to monitor mental health medications and notify MHM’s off-site DON of those that have been discontinued or stopped.

“She recognized the danger to both the inmate and contract staff of a potentially violent effect from medications being abruptly stopped,” DON Bessette said. “There is no way to measure the number of dangerous situations that have been averted due to her proactive behavior.”
