On January 14, while being escorted to the medical unit at Southeast Correctional Center (SECC) in Charleston (MO), a medical emergency was called after a patient collapsed. Several staff responded to the call, and the medical director quickly was able to diagnose an acute inferior wall MI with bradycardia. The medical staff administered life support, and the patient was transported to an offsite acute care facility. Due to the quick actions of the staff involved, diagnosis and treatment saved the life of this patient.

We are grateful to the Corizon Health team at SECC for their quick response and decisive lifesaving skills. Their actions continue to reinforce not only the Corizon Health mission, but what we do daily as health care professionals. As a result, the team at SECC has been awarded the Corizon Health VPO Coin. The Corizon Health VPO Coin was initiated in 2013 by Ralf Salke, Vice President Operations (VPO), in an effort to personally thank staff for service excellence. The team at SECC certainly demonstrated excellence in their efforts to save their patient.
