Importance of giving blood highlighted at Holmes Correctional Institution

Richard Register with OneBlood and Crystal Pearson, LPN

Donating blood recently became personal for a Corizon Health team member at Holmes Correctional Institution in Bonifay (FL). Crystal Pearson, LPN, who coordinates the blood drives at Holmes, learned during a routine screening a few months back that her blood level was extremely low. Upon receiving this news, she was immediately referred to an emergency room where she was given the blood  she needed.

Crystal coordinates blood drives at Holmes through One Blood, a non-profit organization responsible for providing safe, available and affordable blood to 213 hospital partners and their patients in the state of Florida. You may have seen their “Big Red Buses” around the state. Your continued blood donations not only benefit the lives of others, but as in Crystal’s situation, could also help detect health issues of your own. Every time you donate blood, you receive a routine pre-screen prior to giving. This screening can show your iron levels and blood pressure. After giving blood, you can also receive your cholesterol levels by contacting OneBlood.
