Corrections Forum telehealth article spotlights service benefits for patients and clientsThe January/February issue of Corrections Forum featured an article spotlighting telehealth and the potential benefits of utilizing such a service. Citing such things as significant cost savings, the ability to see more patients and improved focus, the article gives specific examples from across the country and features statements from Corizon Health leadership, backed up with some concrete statistics.

Telehealth is a service that is not new, but is growing at a rapid pace, with services increasing in “both the number of conditions that can be treated as well as the quality of care.” In one statewide contract, Corizon Health administered more than 5,000 telehealth encounters in just one year, 3,000 of which would have required off-site transportation. This alone resulted in a savings of nearly $1 million.

Corizon Health Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Calvin Johnson, states in the article that telehealth can be used for all kinds of specialties, “including cardiology, endocrinology, ENT, general surgery, infectious diseases, nephrology, ob/gyn, orthopedics, and urology,” with the most continual growth in the area of mental health.
