Corizon Nurse receives commendation from warden

Tahra McKerchie and Warden Michael Pacheco

Tahra McKerchie of the Wyoming Honor Farm (WHF) was presented with a letter of appreciation from Warden Michael Pacheco for an incident which occurred few weeks ago. On Friday, June 6, Nurse McKerchie was performing her duties when an inmate suffering from a nosebleed was brought in from the Beef Crew.

At first, there did not appear to be anything seriously wrong with the inmate as he walked into the exam room. As the patient was being assessed by Nurse McKerchie, the situation took a drastic change for the worse as the inmate first complained of dizziness, and then lost consciousness and his pulse entirely. Next, it quickly became evident that the inmate had been bleeding into his stomach for most of the day as the contents of his stomach spewed out over the exam area, covering Nurse McKerchie. Despite these circumstances, Tahra kept her composure, focused on the problem at hand and performed CPR on her patient.

Due to Nurse McKerchie’s quick reactions, ability to maintain focus under pressure and make sound clinical judgment, the inmate regained consciousness and was speaking by the time the ambulance arrived. A human life that likely could have been lost was saved that day due to Nurse McKerchie’s actions. Please join us in thanking her and recognizing her for her outstanding efforts. We certainly are proud to call her a Corizon Nurse.
