Like much of the country, St. Louis also experienced the now infamous “Polar Vortex” that swept across large parts of the nation in January. During the winter weather event, multiple patients at the St. Louis City Jail (MO), a Corizon partner, began to complain of headaches and nausea from a generalized housing area of the facility.

The emergency response system was employed and all of the affected inmate patients were relocated from the housing area to another area of the facility. St. Louis City emergency response personnel assessed the area to determine that air vents had been blocked prohibiting a fresh air return.

Thanks to the quick thinking of Medical Director, Dr. Brenda Mallard and Detention Center Superintendent, Patrick Schommer, a potential dangerous event was averted.
