The Lexington – Fayette County Jail (KY), a Corizon partner, was recently featured in County Line, the official publication of the Kentucky Association of Counties. The article, “Rx for Better Inmate Health Care,” explains how the Fayette County Jail is on the cutting edge of health information technology.

This cutting edge technology is explained in further detail by Rodney Ballard, Director of the Fayette County Detention Center, in the sites’ current initiative of getting the jail’s medical records into a secure data center that will be linked with the Kentucky Health Information Exchange (KHIE), a statewide health information system. Linking with KHIE will bring many benefits, like medication management, to Fayette County, and will allow continuity of care, which Ballard recognizes the benefits of. “The jail, the University of Kentucky Hospital and the community health clinics all see the same patients and therefore, they should be able to share data in order to provide continuity of care,” said Ballard in the article.

Ballard also see this as an opportunity to provide the “best care to our inmates at a savings to our taxpayers.” He also stands behind the staff at Fayette County, saying, “We are the flagship. We are overwhelmingly confident of the healthcare provided in our jail.”
